Robert Nesta Marley, known as Bob Marley, left this world more than 40 years ago — but his image and music remain universally recognizable. To pay tribute to him in the most artisanal way possible, I made this portrait painting in birch plywood, cut with a scroll saw.
Bob Marley, world reggae legend
Born in Jamaica, Bob Marley introduced the Rastafari movement and Jamaican music, especially reggae, to the world. A legend during his lifetime, he became a true cultural myth after his death. His face is one of the most reproduced portraits in the world, and it retains an evocative power intact, regardless of the generation.
Technology and materials
This painting is made of 5-ply birch plywood, a stable and thin material that allows precise cuts with a scroll saw. The dimensions of the painting are 31.5 cm × 40 cm, a format suitable for a beautiful display on a wall. The fretwork technique allows the contours of the face and characteristic details to be reproduced with great fidelity.
